Alfredo Bowman was born 1933 in Ilanga, Honduras, of Garifuna descent. He had no formal schooling — his teachers were his grandmother, Mama Hay, and the Ilanga lands: volcanic soil, mineral-rich rivers. He learned by watching which plants animals and elders turned to. By his own account he was a sick man — asthma, diabetes, obesity, depression — and had been failed by the medicine of the time. So he walked away from it: he fasted, ate from the plant kingdom, and healed himself. He was his own proof. He carried the tradition north — New Orleans, the ships, Mexico, back to the world — and over six decades built and named the method: African Bio-Mineral Balance, minerals from living plants in natural proportion.
He was his own proof.
These traditions were ours first. Sea moss out of the Caribbean, long before it trended. Batana from the Miskito coast. Alkaline, plant-forward eating rooted in African, Caribbean, and Indigenous plant lineages — carried for decades by community word of mouth before any hashtag.

He was prosecuted and unbowed: a jury acquitted him on the criminal charges, and separately, the state later restricted the claims he could make. Then the culture caught up — Left Eye called him her healer, Nipsey Hussle was filming the story of his trial, Eddie Murphy, John Travolta, Michael Jackson, were treated by him and Kanye West & Kendrick Lamar paid tribute to him posthumously.

Dr. Sebi's Cell Food is the company Dr. Sebi founded in 2014 — carrying his original formulas forward, and the only official source of Dr. Sebi's original formulas.

Nothing about Dr. Sebi's formulas changes on our watch. The herbs he selected are the herbs we source; prepared from the formulas he composed, to the standard he set.
We only source whole herbs, never isolates, never synthetics — nothing made in a lab, the complete plant the way he intended it. The herbs we use are wildcrafted from undisturbed, mineral-rich lands and collected by small independent harvesters. It costs more and moves slower; we chose it anyway, because a plant can only carry the minerals its ground had to give. Minerals are the one nutrient the body can't make — every batch we produce at Dr. Sebi’s is held to the mineral density the formulas call for. Bromide Plus is Bromide Plus. Bio Ferro is Bio Ferro. We don't modernize them, substitute cheaper ingredients, or chase trends with new formulations.

Made in Los Angeles from domestic and imported ingredients, in small batches. Every batch is made the same way it always has been — measured, blended, and bottled by hand, then packed and shipped from our facility.
This hands-on process helps us maintain consistency and uphold the standard behind every formula we create. From the careful preparation of each ingredient to the final package, every step receives personal attention. Small-batch production allows us to remain closely connected to the process from beginning to end. It is a tradition rooted in care, intention, and respect for the original formulas.
